Mars Launches Adoption Hub to Ease Pet Parent Anxiety
Nearly one in three prospective pet owners are stalling their adoption plans due to fears over an animal’s health history, behavioral background, or household compatibility. To bridge this gap, Mars, Incorporated is launching a dedicated online resource hub designed to provide expert guidance throughout the transition process.

The initiative follows a global study of 26,000 people across 14 countries, which identified a significant confidence deficit among potential adopters. While 28% of respondents expressed a desire to adopt, many cited a lack of information regarding medical backgrounds (33%) and behavioral history (27%) as primary deterrents. By consolidating research from the Waltham Petcare Science Institute, the new platform aims to replace guesswork with structured advice.
Esther Bijsmans, a veterinarian and pet nutrition expert at Mars, emphasizes that the first three months are critical for acclimation. She advocates for the "3-3-3 rule"—a framework for managing safety, routine, and trust—alongside careful nutritional transitions. This educational push coincides with the expansion of the Mars Global Adoption Weekend to over 30 countries, an effort intended to drive local shelter support while providing families with the tools to navigate the complexities of pet ownership.
