Rainer Zietlow drives VW ID.Buzz to global electric vehicle record

The expedition launched from Hannover, Germany, on July 1, 2025, and concluded at the IAA Transportation event in the same city on September 14, 2026. To maintain the rigorous pace, the vehicle utilized two sets of GitiSynergy H2 tires, with the final inspection revealing over half of the tread depth remained intact after the grueling journey through Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, and the Americas.

Zietlow credited the tires for his efficiency, noting that the reduced rolling resistance allowed for approximately 400 kilometers of range per charge. He specifically highlighted the lack of aquaplaning during heavy monsoon rains in South East Asia, affirming the premium handling of the 235/60 R18 front and 255/55 R18 rear fitments. Chris Bloor, Executive Director at Giti Tire, stated the project successfully demonstrated the durability and safety of their EV-specific technology under extreme real-world conditions. This accomplishment follows Giti Tire’s recent technical milestone, where their GitiSport e.GTR2 Pro tires supported the YANGWANG U9 Xtreme in reaching a record top speed of 496.22 km/h.
