Xi'an Hands Off Silk Road Film Festival Flag After Record-Breaking Run
Under the glow of the awards stage in Xi'an, the 13th Silk Road International Film Festival concluded on September 23, marking the end of an eight-day cycle that drew over 100,000 attendees to screenings and signaled a formal transition of the event's stewardship to the city of Fuzhou.
The festival recognized "Black Night, Black Gold" as the year's Best Feature Film, while Wang Ju and Ivan Savov claimed the top acting honors. Veteran director and educator Xie Fei accepted the Lifetime Achievement Award, capping a selection process that winnowed 2,130 international submissions down to a final field of 23 contenders.
Beyond the awards, organizers focused on integrating cinema with regional commerce. Public screenings reached across universities, outdoor squares, and digital platforms, with 363 free events held at 111 locations throughout Shaanxi. The "Film +" initiative proved financially significant, connecting 600 local consumption sites and driving a 17.8% increase in merchant traffic, while overall box office revenue saw a 6.3% year-on-year climb. The event also secured new industry ties, including a strategic partnership with the Cairo International Film Festival and the signing of co-production projects like "The Wandering Accordion."
