Alexandria Condominiums Secure Grants for Electric Vehicle Charging
Three residential communities in Alexandria, Virginia, have integrated the city's Plug in Alexandria initiative to expand electric vehicle infrastructure. Managed by FirstService Residential, the Marina Towers Condominium Association, Northampton Place, and Parkfairfax were selected to receive technical expertise and financial support to offset the costs of installing charging stations.
The Plug in Alexandria program aims to bridge the accessibility gap for electric vehicle owners living in multi-family housing. Participants receive specialized guidance alongside a $10,000 reimbursement grant designed to mitigate the capital expenditure required for charger installation. For the selected properties, the move represents a shift toward modernizing amenities to meet the rising demand for sustainable transit options among residents.
Trent Harrison, President of FirstService Residential’s MidAtlantic division, noted that the local teams collaborated closely with community boards to navigate the program requirements. Beyond this specific infrastructure project, the firm utilizes its FirstService Energy branch to consult with properties across North America on utility efficiency and cost-saving measures. By leveraging these energy management solutions, the management company seeks to provide boards with the data necessary to evaluate long-term capital investments in property value and resident services.
