Field of Screams Maryland Delays Return Until 2027

The postponement follows an 11-month redesign of the attraction, which was slated to debut 22 new stations alongside updated infrastructure, lighting, and sound systems. Organizers confirmed the event remains on hold until the Olney Boys and Girls Community Sports Association (OBGC) secures an amendment to its Special Exception, a regulatory step required to explicitly permit fundraising events on the property.

For more than two decades, the haunted attraction has functioned as the primary fundraiser for the OBGC, contributing over $3.5 million toward youth sports costs and scholarships. John Dixon, Director of Operations, noted the impact of the closure extends beyond the scare factor, affecting 320 seasonal staff members who rely on the autumn income, as well as local restaurants that benefit from the influx of thousands of visitors. While the team remains ready to launch the reimagined experience, they are currently working with Montgomery County officials to resolve the permitting status. The attraction plans to release 2027 ticketing information and event dates via its website in the coming months.
