The CT&I division will consolidate hundreds of employees previously scattered across audit, tax, and advisory lines into a single unit. Under the leadership of Todd Lohr, the firm’s vice chair, the group will centralize data, AI development, and strategic partnerships with tech leaders like OpenAI and Anthropic. By isolating this team from the standard partnership voting structure, KPMG intends to build products and hire talent at a pace that matches the disruptive startups challenging the traditional Big Four model.

Beyond product development, the unit serves as an internal incubator for the firm’s rising stars. Staff will gain founder-style experience before rotating back into core business lines, a move designed to embed a culture of speed into the broader organization. This structural pivot reflects a wider industry trend, as peers like Deloitte and EY also reorganize to capture demand for AI implementation. Lohr maintains that while traditional consulting remains vital, the firm must integrate product-based and subscription-style services to remain competitive against leaner, tech-focused entrants.
