Saber Healthcare Group Reports Data Breach Following Cyberattack
A July 27 service outage at Saber Healthcare Group stemmed from an unauthorized party infiltrating the company’s corporate network and encrypting specific files. While the Ohio-based healthcare provider restored its systems within 48 hours using backups, an investigation confirmed that sensitive personal and medical data was potentially exposed during the intrusion.
The security breach affected internal systems, but the company’s electronic medical records remained hosted on an external, unaffected platform. Saber confirmed that there is no evidence of unauthorized access or modification to patient medical databases. However, a review of the compromised corporate files revealed that personal identifiers—including Social Security numbers, passport information, driver’s licenses, and financial account details—may have been accessed.
Following the completion of its internal audit on August 19, the organization began notifying affected individuals by mail.
