Alibaba Faces Securities Fraud Lawsuit Over Alleged Government Ties

Investors who held Alibaba Group Holding Limited stock between June 2025 and June 2026 have until October 5 to join a class action lawsuit. The litigation, filed by Schall, Brown & Schwartz LLP, alleges the company misled shareholders regarding its operational independence from the Chinese government and its involvement in AI-related security risks.

The complaint centers on claims that Alibaba misrepresented its relationship with the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information. According to the filing, the company allegedly functioned under direct or indirect state control, potentially classifying it as a Chinese military entity under the National Defense Authorization Act. Furthermore, the suit asserts that Alibaba was engaged in distillation attacks against major Western AI models, a risk investors claim was downplayed or concealed during the class period.

Shareholders who incurred losses during the specified timeframe are eligible to seek lead plaintiff status, though this is not a prerequisite for participating in a potential recovery. Attorneys Brian Schall and David Schwartz are overseeing the case, which remains pending class certification. Until a court certifies the class, investors remain absent members without formal legal representation through the firm.
