Lakewood-Amedex Reports Positive Results for Diabetic Ulcer Treatment

The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration testing analyzed the drug’s performance against recent clinical isolates, including both resistant and susceptible variants of Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecalis. Data indicated that Nu-3 maintained consistent bactericidal activity, with MIC values measuring two to eight times lower than the levels currently utilized in Phase 2a clinical trials. This suggests a favorable therapeutic window for the treatment, which is designed to minimize the risk of antimicrobial resistance.

CEO Kelvin Cooper described the findings as an encouraging sign for the Bisphosphocin class, noting that the drug successfully neutralized microbes that pose a significant threat to patients suffering from diabetic foot infections. With approximately one-third of the 830 million people living with diabetes expected to develop foot ulcers, and nearly half of those cases becoming infected, the clinical need for effective, fast-acting antimicrobials remains high. Lakewood-Amedex expects to release topline data from its ongoing Phase 2a study in the first quarter of 2027.
