PSEG Foundation Distributes $500,000 to Tackle Regional Food Insecurity
Eighty nonprofit organizations across New Jersey and Long Island have secured a collective $500,000 in funding to combat rising food insecurity. Distributed through the PSEG Foundation’s Neighborhood Partners Program, these grants arrive during Hunger Action Month to bolster essential services for families, seniors, and youth facing economic hardship.
The current allocation represents the first wave of a broader initiative that will distribute over $1 million throughout 2026. Among the initial recipients are Meals on Wheels in Mercer County, Newark’s Covenant House, and Elizabeth’s St. Joseph’s Social Service Center. These organizations provide a critical safety net, ranging from home-delivered meals for the elderly to immediate support for homeless youth.
Calvin Ledford Jr., president of the PSEG Foundation, noted that the funding aims to help local partners scale their operations to meet surging demand for basic necessities. Since the inception of the Neighborhood Partners Program in 2014, the foundation has invested more than $9.8 million into over 825 community organizations. Beyond financial contributions, the company leverages its workforce to bridge gaps in service; in 2025, nearly 700 employees participated in food drives and pantry initiatives, a trend that has continued with 350 staff members logging 1,500 volunteer hours during the first half of this year.
