Castrol pivots to end-to-end thermal management for data centers
As AI and high-performance computing push cooling demands to their limits, Castrol is shifting its data center strategy from selling standalone fluids to providing an integrated thermal management service. The new "Castrol CORE" platform aims to consolidate design, testing, and lifecycle maintenance into a single point of contact for operators.

The move addresses a critical friction point in the infrastructure market: the logistical complexity of managing multiple technology vendors. By embedding itself early in the facility design process, Castrol intends to mitigate the high costs of downtime and supply chain volatility. The company’s cooling technologies have already been validated through partnerships with chip manufacturers including NVIDIA and Intel, ensuring compatibility with next-generation AI hardware.
Global support for the initiative relies on a massive footprint, utilizing specialized laboratories in the UK, US, Germany, and China, alongside a service network spanning more than 150 countries. Peter Huang, Global President of Data Centre and Thermal Management, noted that the industry is moving away from product-only procurement toward comprehensive partnerships. In the Asia Pacific region, Castrol has already launched a dedicated design team and is currently running proof-of-concept projects with major data center operators in China to refine the model before broader global scaling.
