Qujam Debuts Hyper-Grid Tool to Navigate Evolving Geofencing Laws

Pittsburgh-based advertising platform Qujam has unveiled Hyper-Grid geofencing, a targeting solution designed to align with tightening data privacy regulations across the United States and Canada. By shifting from precise polygonal coordinates to standardized half-mile grid squares, the company aims to ensure legal compliance while maintaining campaign visibility for marketers.

Unlike standard platforms that often obscure boundary adjustments to meet regional mandates, Qujam’s new system relies on fixed 0.5-mile by 0.5-mile GPS bounding boxes. CEO Jeff Swartz stated that the move toward transparent grid targeting was a direct response to restrictive state laws in jurisdictions such as Oregon, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, and Connecticut. By allowing users to select specific grid squares manually, the platform offers marketers explicit control over their geographic reach.

Beyond basic location targeting, the tool supports layered demographic filters, including occupation and political affiliation, to refine audience segments. The company noted that Hyper-Grid campaigns may offer lower base CPM rates compared to traditional precision geofencing, potentially increasing impression volume for advertisers. This release coincides with a broader interface update to the Qujam dashboard, marking the initial phase of a roadmap that includes an upcoming 'Pro' version with API integration and white-labeling capabilities.
