Fairphone Prepares Fairbuds 2 Launch with Modular Design
Seven replaceable parts define the Fairbuds 2, Fairphone’s upcoming successor to its modular wireless earbuds. After recent leaks and official teasers, the company confirmed an October 14 reveal, positioning the new hardware as a direct upgrade to the original model while maintaining a strict focus on user-led repairability.
Beyond the modular architecture, the new earbuds introduce support for Sony’s high-resolution LDAC codec. This marks a significant departure from the original Fairbuds, which were limited to SBC and AAC codecs, similar to the hardware found in standard Apple AirPods. The inclusion of adaptive LDAC suggests a push for higher audio fidelity in the next generation.
The company confirmed a staggered rollout, starting with a European release at €119. A US launch will follow with a price point of $119. This pricing strategy represents a notable adjustment compared to the first-generation Fairbuds, which debuted at €149 in early 2024 before eventually dropping to $99.99 in the American market.
