Climate Week NYC: Real Estate Leaders Seek Defensible Capital Paths
Government officials from Brazil, France, and Kenya joined global investors at the Sustainable Real Estate Forum’s debut in New York, seeking to bridge the gap between climate ambition and actionable financial strategy. The two-day event focused on integrating building data and technology to secure long-term asset value.

The forum, held at the Chrysler Building and Schroders, brought together industry heavyweights including Tishman Speyer, DWS, and UNEP to address the practicalities of decarbonizing the built environment. Discussions centered on the 'Blend Better Cement' campaign, which promotes a technology capable of reducing emissions by 50% compared to traditional materials. Policymakers from Ethiopia, Tanzania, and other nations are already moving to integrate these lower-carbon standards into public procurement.
Beyond materials, the event highlighted a shift in investment philosophy. Experts argued that the market is moving from a 'flight to quality' to a 'flight to experience,' where real-time building data serves as the primary tool for mitigating operational risk. Panelists noted that while capital for the housing transition is available, it remains stalled by uncertainty. As Ambassador Antônio Francisco da Costa e Silva Neto of Brazil’s Ministry of Cities emphasized, private investment requires clear regulatory frameworks and credible data pipelines to transition from theory to large-scale delivery.
