Nel ASA Lands $20 Million in Submarine Life-Support Contracts
Nel Hydrogen US has secured a fresh $7 million in purchase orders from Collins Aerospace, pushing the company’s total intake for submarine PEM electrolyser stacks to $20 million this month. These systems, critical for naval life-support, will be manufactured at the company’s Wallingford, Connecticut facility through 2028.
The latest tranche of orders covers naval programs across the United States, the United Kingdom, and France. This follows a significant $12 million agreement announced just one day prior, alongside smaller contracts signed earlier in September. All associated revenue will be reflected in the company’s third-quarter results for 2026.
Todd Cartwright, Chief Commercial Officer at Nel, emphasized that the repeat business validates the reliability of their PEM technology in high-stakes environments. Submarine life-support systems demand rigorous performance standards, and the company is leveraging its established manufacturing footprint to meet these specialized requirements as deliveries ramp up over the next two years.
