Overview Energy Secures Contract to Develop Space Power Homing Beacon

The project aims to solve the military's reliance on vulnerable fuel convoys by enabling redirectable power from geosynchronous orbit. By requiring an authenticated signal from the ground-based beacon, the system prevents potential signal hijacking or spoofing. Overview Energy plans to integrate this technology into its first satellite for a scheduled 2028 space demonstration, utilizing designs refined through direct feedback from warfighters in the field.

Christopher DePuma, Combat Power Portfolio Lead at OECIF, noted that the technology provides a resilient alternative to traditional supply chains. Co-CEO Darko Filipi emphasized that the beacon is the critical link in the orbital power chain, building on successful airborne flight tests conducted by the firm. The hardware developed under this award will serve as the foundation for a full constellation of satellites, with deployment expected to begin in 2030 to support both defense and commercial grid capacities.
