Marina del Rey Positions Itself as a 2027 Travel Hub
With major hotel renovations and a surge in retail and wellness openings, Marina del Rey is rebranding as a premier home base for visitors. Positioned just four miles from LAX, the coastal enclave aims to capitalize on Los Angeles’ upcoming slate of global sports events, including the 2027 Super Bowl.

The Ritz-Carlton, Marina del Rey is currently executing a floor-by-floor overhaul of its 304 rooms, aiming for completion by February to accommodate Super Bowl LXI crowds. Following the tournament, the property plans to renovate its lobby, corridors, and signature restaurant, Cast & Plow. Simultaneously, the Marina del Rey Hotel is scheduled to unveil 164 refreshed guest rooms in 2027, emphasizing a contemporary coastal aesthetic to match its waterfront views.
Beyond lodging, the area is expanding its commercial footprint. The 10-acre Waterside shopping center is adding brands like Lululemon, Brooks Running, and Wake & Late to its existing roster of retailers. Dining and wellness options are also diversifying; the historic 130-foot yacht now hosting The Northwind Experience offers unique harbor-side event space, while the Fire Pilates Club and the forthcoming third location of Luna Bistro & Cafe signal a push toward a more curated visitor experience. As the Marina del Rey Historical Society marks its 20th anniversary in 2027, the destination seeks to bridge its past as a transformed wetland with a modern identity focused on luxury recreation and proximity to major regional attractions.
