Halide update unlocks granular aperture control for iPhone 18 Pro

The native iOS camera application currently limits aperture adjustments to four specific presets. While third-party alternatives like BlackMagic Camera and Moment Pro Camera II have already expanded this range to 10 settings in 1/3 stop increments, Halide bypasses these constraints entirely. Users can now dial in any f-stop value ranging from f/1.48 to f/4.0. Although the visual distinction between granular settings like f/4.0 and f/3.99 remains subtle, the flexibility provides photographers with the granular control typically reserved for professional digital cameras. Developers are currently evaluating user feedback to determine if additional presets should be integrated into future versions.

Beyond hardware adjustments, the update expands the app's post-processing library with two distinct aesthetic profiles. The Dawn look introduces filmic warmth to highlights and mid-tones, while the Quicksilver setting draws inspiration from silver-retention film processes to deliver high contrast and muted color palettes. These additions build upon the film simulation engine introduced with the launch of Mark III earlier this year, reinforcing the app's focus on manual control over automated algorithmic processing.
