Amazon Smart Glasses to Capture Thousands of Images During Shifts

Viraj Chatterjee, an Amazon representative, stated the company has not considered an opt-out mechanism for customers whose private property or likeness may be recorded. Although Amazon asserts the glasses are not intended for surveillance, the company confirmed that captured images could be turned over to law enforcement if served with a warrant. The firm intends to blur faces and license plates before any human review occurs, yet it remains unclear how long the raw data will be stored.

This initiative expands Amazon’s existing reliance on monitoring technology, which already includes AI-enabled cameras inside delivery vans. Previous implementations of such hardware faced backlash from workers who reported frequent technical glitches and privacy concerns after footage was leaked online. Amazon plans to deploy 20,000 additional pairs of glasses by 2027, following a pilot program that has already processed over 275,000 deliveries.
