Vortex Companies Expands UK Footprint with Torrent Drainage Acquisition
As the UK water sector gears up for a massive infrastructure investment cycle, Houston-based Vortex Companies has acquired Torrent Drainage Services. The move folds the specialist contractor into McAllister, a Vortex subsidiary, aiming to bolster trenchless rehabilitation capacity and field-level execution across the British market.
The integration of Torrent addresses the rising demand for efficient project delivery as the industry prepares for the AMP8 regulatory period. Torrent brings a specialized portfolio that includes cured-in-place pipe lining, robotic lateral reinstatement, and high-precision sewer inspection. Because the two firms have collaborated on previous projects, the transition focuses on immediate operational synergy rather than lengthy onboarding.
Mike Vellano, CEO of Vortex Companies, noted that the acquisition provides the necessary flexibility to scale operations as infrastructure spending accelerates. By bringing Torrent’s team directly into the McAllister fold, Vortex gains tighter control over scheduling and resource mobilization. This consolidation allows the company to self-perform a broader range of rehabilitation tasks, reducing reliance on third-party contractors while maintaining consistent technical standards for municipal and private clients.
