Geotab Enters Fintech With Real-Time Fuel Fraud Prevention Card
For a 500-vehicle Class 8 fleet, unauthorized fuel use can siphon $2.19 million annually. Geotab is aiming to stop that leakage with its new Fleet Card, a payment tool that integrates vehicle telematics with financial controls to halt fraudulent transactions before they are processed at the pump.

Developed in partnership with fintech company AtoB, the card shifts the industry standard from reactive alerts to preventative authorization. The system remains locked until a driver activates it via the Geotab Drive app. Upon a purchase attempt, the platform cross-references the vehicle’s GPS coordinates, proximity to the pump, and fuel levels. If the data does not align, the transaction is automatically declined, effectively neutralizing potential fuel theft.
Beyond security, the platform targets rising operational costs by granting access to wholesale discounts at over 34,000 U.S. fueling stations. Integrated analytics allow drivers to identify lower-cost fuel stops in real-time, a capability Geotab suggests could save fleets significant capital given that prices for the same diesel can fluctuate by as much as 77 cents per gallon within a single town. Eligible accounts are further protected by a fraud guarantee covering up to $250,000 for verified transactions.
The card expands Geotab’s reach into fleet financial management, supporting 11 additional expense categories including maintenance, tolls, and insurance. By consolidating payment data directly into the Geotab telematics dashboard, fleet managers can oversee spending limits and generate International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) reports from a single interface. The service carries no monthly card fees or activation costs and is currently available to eligible U.S. commercial operators.
