Picis Launches Prima to Untether Anesthesia Documentation

Anesthesia clinicians in Massachusetts are trading fixed workstations for mobility with the launch of Picis Prima, a tablet-based platform designed to capture patient data at the point of care. By moving documentation into the workflow, the system aims to eliminate the traditional physical barriers between providers and clinical records.

The platform supports the entire perioperative journey, from preoperative assessments to intraoperative recording. Clinicians can input physiological variables, medications, and clinical notes directly on a tablet as they move between care settings. This mobility is intended to mirror the natural movement of anesthesia teams, who previously faced fragmented workflows while tethered to stationary computers.

Beyond data entry, Prima integrates with existing medical infrastructure by pulling physiological information from monitors, ventilators, and anesthesia devices. The system leverages HL7-based connectivity to sync with electronic medical records, ensuring that documentation remains centralized. Marc Lloses Padilla, Executive Vice President at Picis, noted that the technology was built to adapt to the clinician's movement rather than forcing staff to adjust their habits to rigid hardware. This development marks a shift for the Peabody-based company, which has spent over three decades focused on perioperative and critical care information systems.
