Metallium Advances Flash Joule Heating for Precious Metal Recovery
Three Flash Joule Heating reactors at the Texas Technology Campus successfully processed PGM-bearing catalytic converter feedstock over a 12-hour window. This milestone shifts Metallium from inert testing to active reactive chlorination, signaling a critical transition toward the company's objective of commercial metal recovery by early 2027.

The campaign marks a departure from earlier, non-reactive trials by demonstrating the system's ability to maintain stable multi-unit operations under high-temperature chlorination conditions. By utilizing PGM-bearing material, Metallium is gathering the metallurgical data necessary to refine process variables and map thermochemical behavior within the reactor environment.
Managing Director and CEO Michael Walshe described the results as a pivotal step toward commercial relevance. The company plans to leverage these insights to begin producing intermediate metal-bearing products, such as metal chlorides, in the first half of 2027. This phased approach serves as a precursor to a full-scale commercial launch, utilizing the Gator Point Technology Campus to bridge the gap between pilot-scale development and industrial-grade recovery of critical minerals.
