BASIS Independent Schools Secure Top Ranks and National Merit Success
Nearly 30% of the senior class across BASIS Independent Schools has been named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists, a milestone coinciding with the network's high-profile performance in the 2027 Niche Rankings. The results highlight a rigorous, spiraling curriculum that emphasizes student ownership and academic mastery across campuses in New York, Virginia, and California.

The 2027 Niche Rankings placed two of the brand’s five qualified high schools—BASIS Independent Manhattan and BASIS Independent Brooklyn—within the top 10 private K-12 institutions nationwide. These rankings reflect a broader trend of high academic performance across the network’s regional footprint. In California, BASIS Independent Silicon Valley and BASIS Independent Fremont secured spots among the country's top 10 schools for STEM, while the McLean campus in Virginia earned recognition as a premier college preparatory institution.
Beyond institutional rankings, the individual achievements of the senior cohort remain a primary metric for the network. Out of 234 seniors, 68 students earned National Merit Semifinalist status. These scholars are now part of a competitive pool vying for approximately 6,700 scholarships totaling $24 million. Toby Walker, Vice President of BASIS Independent Schools, attributed these outcomes to the network's focus on providing purposeful challenges that encourage students to engage deeply with complex subject matter rather than relying solely on traditional testing metrics.
