GJW+ Debuts Original Animated Series Monkey King Adventures
Drawing from the 16th-century Chinese classic Journey to the West, streaming platform GJW+ launched its first original animated series, Monkey King Adventures, on October 2. The multi-season production aims to translate the ancient pilgrimage into a modern, family-friendly format distributed exclusively on GJW+ and the Gan Jing Kids platform.

The debut season, titled The Rise of the King, tracks the transformation of Sun Wukong from a creature born of a magical stone into the legendary Monkey King. Through twelve 10-minute episodes, the narrative explores the character's growth as he battles mythological foes and learns lessons in resilience. While the series incorporates the epic scale of the original text, director Jian Lun Lu emphasized that the project focuses on relatable personality traits—such as Wukong’s struggle with humility and his commitment to protecting others.
According to Gan Jing World CEO Sherry Yin, the series is designed to highlight the protagonist's internal development across 81 trials. The platform, which markets itself on avoiding addictive algorithms, is releasing the first two episodes for free. Subsequent chapters will arrive on a weekly schedule for subscribers, providing a curated viewing experience intended to foster discussion between children and adults about kindness and self-cultivation.
