Meta releases open-source code for DIY Muse AI devices

Meta has opened the architecture for its Muse AI agent, inviting hobbyists to build custom gadgets ranging from E Ink notification displays to HDMI-connected interfaces. By releasing the software development kits, the company is pushing its artificial intelligence beyond the screen and into the realm of home-brewed hardware projects.

The project centers on the ability to program off-the-shelf components like ESP32 boards or Raspberry Pi setups to host the Muse agent. Users can integrate various sensors, buttons, and actuators to create bespoke devices, such as a DIY version of the Muse Charm. While the company encourages this experimentation, it notes that builders should proceed at their own risk when connecting these components.

To jumpstart adoption, Meta is distributing 5,000 units of the Muse Home Link, a dedicated device designed to bridge the AI with household electronics. According to Nat Friedman of Meta Superintelligence Labs, the gadget allows users to leverage community-built skills for tasks like controlling lighting, managing TV playback, or triggering printers. Interested users can currently join a waitlist for the device, which is scheduled to begin shipping later this month.
