Consano Bio Secures $15 Million to Advance Sciatica Treatment

Burlington-based Consano Bio has raised more than $15 million in an oversubscribed financing round, pushing the biotech firm’s total capital raised to over $45 million. The funds are earmarked for the ongoing Phase 1 clinical trial of C-1101, a novel biologic therapy aimed at addressing chronic lumbosacral radiculopathy.

The company is currently testing C-1101, a platelet-derived multi-protein biologic, in a randomized, double-blind study across Australia and the United States. With the FDA having granted the candidate Fast Track designation in August 2026, the firm plans to complete patient enrollment early next year. Clinical data from the trial are expected by the first half of 2027.

Chronic sciatica remains a significant medical gap, as there are currently no FDA-approved pharmaceutical treatments for the condition. Patients often rely on temporary fixes that fail to address underlying pathology, contributing to the broader crisis of long-term opioid use. CEO Andrew Hall noted that the injection is designed to trigger the body’s natural cellular repair mechanisms, potentially offering a departure from existing standards of care. The capital will also support the expansion of the company’s intellectual property portfolio as it explores applications for the therapy beyond lumbosacral radiculopathy.
