Volvo and Waabi Launch Autonomous Freight Service in Texas
A fleet of Volvo VNL Autonomous trucks, equipped with Waabi’s AI-driven software, has officially begun hauling freight for the logistics firm Warp. The deployment on the Dallas-Houston corridor marks the first commercial application of the Volvo-Waabi partnership, signaling a shift toward integrating self-driving technology into complex less-than-truckload supply chains.

The new service utilizes the Volvo VNL Autonomous platform, a vehicle engineered specifically for driverless operations with redundancies across six safety-critical systems. While these hauls currently include a human observer in the driver’s seat, the integration into Warp’s network allows for the direct transport of goods to third-party facilities without intermediate handoffs. This streamlined approach aims to improve scheduling predictability for LTL providers, who must balance the demands of multiple shippers within a single transit route.
Nils Jaeger, President of Volvo Autonomous Solutions, noted that the initiative tests the ecosystem’s ability to handle high-complexity logistics segments. For Warp, which manages freight for companies like Walmart and DoorDash, the partnership provides a method to scale capacity as market demand fluctuates. Lior Ron, COO of Waabi, emphasized that the project serves as a proving ground for the 'Waabi Driver' technology to manage real-world freight environments. Both companies plan to leverage operational data from the Texas route to refine their transport model before expanding to additional corridors in the coming years.
