LG Integrates Cockpit Technology for Renault’s First Software-Defined Van
Renault Group has tapped LG Electronics to provide the integrated cockpit system for its New Trafic E-Tech Electric, marking the automaker's first mass-produced commercial vehicle built on a software-defined architecture. The project leverages LG’s centralized control framework to merge traditional instrument clusters with infotainment displays.

The partnership signals a shift toward high-performance computing in commercial transport. By consolidating the instrument cluster—which displays critical data like speed and RPM—with the infotainment system, LG’s solution replaces the fragmented control units found in conventional vehicles. This centralization supports over-the-air software updates, allowing the van to receive feature enhancements and system upgrades throughout its operational lifecycle.
Beyond technical performance, the integration aims to simplify component architecture, effectively reducing production costs for Renault. This collaboration relies on a decade of shared history between the two companies, including the development of an Android-based infotainment platform in 2021 and multiple awards recognizing LG as a top-tier supplier. According to Eun Seok-hyun, president of the LG Vehicle Solution Company, the firm intends to leverage this deployment to scale its software-defined vehicle solutions across North American and Asian markets.
