Skydance to Merge HBO Max and Paramount Plus Following Acquisition
With Paramount’s $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery finalized, the media landscape faces a massive consolidation as Skydance prepares to fold HBO Max and Paramount Plus into a single streaming platform. The move aims to create a unified powerhouse capable of challenging Netflix’s dominance in the direct-to-consumer market.

Skydance CEO David Ellison confirmed the integration, noting that the combined entity will command a subscriber base exceeding 200 million users. While the transition timeline remains undefined, HBO CEO Casey Bloys will take the helm of the unified service. This strategic alignment brings prestige television staples like House of the Dragon and The White Lotus under the same digital roof as Paramount’s flagship hits, including Yellowstone and Mobland.
This consolidation effort serves as a direct response to Netflix, which currently maintains a lead with 325 million global subscribers. By pooling content libraries, Skydance hopes to capture a larger share of viewer attention and reduce churn across its platforms. Despite the scale of the merger, leadership has yet to disclose the branding for the future service or the specific logistical roadmap for migrating existing accounts.
