Scania Overhauls Touring Coach With Super Powertrain and Digital Tech

Scania has unveiled a new generation of its Touring coach, marking a significant evolution for the model first introduced in 2009. The updated vehicle integrates the high-efficiency Super powertrain platform with a redesigned exterior aimed at improving aerodynamics, while simultaneously upgrading the driver interface and passenger amenities for long-distance travel.

The exterior redesign moves beyond aesthetics to improve performance, utilizing digital rear-view mirrors to reduce air drag and noise levels. Inside the cab, visibility has been enhanced by shifting the B-pillar 90 mm rearward. Drivers now manage operations through an expanded Smart Dash interface, which supports navigation, reverse camera feeds, and smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

For passengers, the interior overhaul focuses on accessibility and comfort. Wider staircase steps lead to a cabin featuring Kiel Avance X seating, USB-C connectivity, and ambient lighting. Practical capacity has also seen a boost with expanded luggage compartments and redesigned overhead racks. The transition to the Euro 7-ready Super powertrain aims to deliver an 8 to 10 percent reduction in fuel consumption and emissions, supported by a 25 percent increase in component lifespan. Sundeep Kumar, Head of Portfolio Management at Scania, noted that the model balances reliability with the modern design requirements of current travel operators. The company plans a phased rollout of the new generation, starting with a battery-electric vehicle variant.
