SKF Targets Data Center Cooling Efficiency at Chillventa 2026

As global data center capacity surges, cooling systems face mounting pressure to balance performance with power consumption. SKF is positioning its latest magnetic and ceramic bearing technologies to tackle these demands, aiming to reduce energy use in high-speed chillers and heat pumps by up to 40 percent.

The company’s centerpiece for the upcoming Chillventa exhibition in Nuremberg is the MBx active magnetic bearing series. By utilizing automated winding and a modular architecture, the system aims to streamline production and shorten lead times for manufacturers struggling to keep pace with the infrastructure boom. These units eliminate the need for oil, effectively removing a primary source of mechanical wear and system complexity in high-speed centrifugal chillers.

Beyond magnetic solutions, SKF is expanding its portfolio with the CeraDrive hybrid ceramic bearing series and the Extreme super-precision platform. These components are engineered for environments where conventional materials fail, supporting rotational speeds reaching 120,000 rpm and turbine temperatures up to 200°C. According to Thomas Grubbauer, Global Fluid Machinery Industry Manager, these advancements provide the reliability necessary for critical digital and industrial infrastructure. The technologies will be on display at booth 1-510 from October 13 to 15, 2026.
