Google updates Pixel Buds to sync with sleep patterns

If you drift off while wearing your Pixel Buds, the music will now stop automatically. Google is rolling out a firmware update for its A-Series and Pro 2 earbuds that enables sleep detection via the Pixel Watch, effectively silencing notifications and freezing touch controls the moment you fall asleep.

Beyond sleep-tracking integration, the update introduces several utility-focused features. Users can now toggle microphone muting with a quick tap during calls, provided they are paired with a Pixel phone, and trigger live translation through a single gesture. Gemini voice commands have also been expanded, granting users hands-free control over active noise cancellation, equalizer settings, and touch inputs.

For owners of the Pixel Buds Pro 2, Google is introducing Dynamic ANC. This feature continuously monitors the seal of the earbuds in the ear canal, adjusting noise cancellation levels in real time to compensate for fit variations. The rollout, confirmed via a community forum post, was initially slated to include original Pixel Buds Pro models for most features, though Google subsequently scrubbed references to the older hardware from its official announcement. The company has yet to clarify whether those legacy devices will receive any of the new functionality.
