Arthur J. Gallagher Expands Irish Footprint With Ornella Acquisition
The Illinois-based insurance giant Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. has finalized the acquisition of Wexford-based Ornella Underwriting Limited. By absorbing the Irish managing general agent into its specialist subsidiary, Pen Underwriting, the global firm seeks to bolster its regional presence in personal and commercial insurance lines.
Ornella Underwriting operates through a broad network of independent brokers, maintaining a strong market position in motor, home, and fleet insurance. Following the deal, the Wexford office will remain active under the existing leadership of Paul Whelan. He will report to Michael Doyle, who oversees Pen Underwriting’s operations in Ireland.
J. Patrick Gallagher, Jr., Chairman and CEO of the parent company, noted that the integration of the Irish firm provides both complementary expertise and immediate growth potential for their European portfolio. While the financial terms of the transaction remain undisclosed, the move signals a continued commitment to scaling Gallagher's underwriting capabilities across the continent.
