Higginbotham Elevates Transportation Practice to Full Division

The U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in Montgomery v. Caribe Transport II, LLC has forced a reckoning across the logistics sector, prompting insurance brokerage Higginbotham to reorganize its transportation practice into a dedicated division. This shift aims to better equip carriers and brokers against mounting legal and operational volatility.

The new division, now comprising 31 specialists with a combined 372 years of industry experience, will debut its expanded capacity at the biennial ReFuel Leadership Conference in Chattanooga on October 27–28. The event arrives as trucking companies struggle with the compounding costs of fuel, payroll, and insurance, alongside a shifting regulatory landscape. The Montgomery decision, which exposes freight brokers to liability for accidents involving selected carriers, serves as the primary catalyst for the firm's strategic pivot.

Brent Allred, who took leadership of the specialty practice in 2021 after it originated from the firm's 2020 partnership with Memphis-based Lipscomb & Pitts, noted that brokers must now reevaluate their risk exposure and insurance requirements. By transitioning into a full division, the team gains the autonomy to scale its Day Two Services® model, which utilizes claims and loss prevention experts specifically trained in the nuances of the trucking sector. This structure allows the company to provide tailored support for clients navigating a complex, cross-state regulatory environment.
