BIXBI Pet Expands Purity Certification to Six Cat Kibble Recipes

Following a recent industry-wide investigation that revealed widespread heavy metal contamination in commercial pet food, Colorado-based BIXBI Pet has secured Clean Label Project® certification for six additional cat kibble recipes. The move brings the company’s total number of certified dog and cat products to 19 as it pushes for full-line verification.

The certification arrives shortly after a CNN-reported study of 100 top-selling cat foods found lead in 99% of samples and arsenic in 94%. While many premium brands failed to meet rigorous purity standards, BIXBI’s Rawbble® Freeze-Dried Turkey cat food was noted for achieving the highest rating in the nonprofit’s testing. The newly certified items include various Rawbble® and Liberty® recipes, specifically targeting digestive and indoor health across 3-lb and 10-lb bag sizes.

Rachel D'Agostino, CEO of BIXBI Pet, emphasized the necessity of owner trust, noting that cats often remain on a single diet for years. The company aims to have its entire product portfolio certified by the end of 2027. This verification process involves independent testing for over 120 contaminants, including pesticides, glyphosate, and heavy metals, utilizing benchmarks from California’s Proposition 65 and European Union regulations. Molly Hamilton, Executive Director of the Clean Label Project®, praised the company’s ongoing commitment to transparency in an industry where federal requirements for trace contaminant reporting remain limited.
