Frax Becomes First Crypto Firm to File for ICANN Top-Level Domain
Las Vegas, October 7, 2026 — Frax has officially entered the race for a new top-level domain as the first crypto entity to have its application for .frax published by ICANN. If approved, the move would bridge the divide between traditional internet architecture and the onchain economy through a globally recognized namespace.

The proposed .frax domain aims to function as a standard identifier, matching the reach of .com or .org while remaining fully manageable through the Frax Name Service on the Fraxtal blockchain. By integrating the domain system with the Frax Burn Engine, the company intends to create a feedback loop where domain registrations permanently reduce the supply of the ecosystem's native digital commodity. Founder Sam Kazemian describes the project as an effort to create programmable financial endpoints that serve individuals, businesses, and AI agents.
Beyond simple identity management, the initiative supports the broader expansion of FraxNet, a platform connecting financial institutions and fintechs. Plans for the domain include the implementation of agentic machine-payment standards, such as x402, to allow autonomous software to execute stablecoin transactions directly. The application, supported by registrar MarkMonitor, marks a significant shift in how crypto-native entities attempt to assimilate into the global Domain Name System infrastructure.
