Ribo Files European Phase 1 Trial for Obesity-Targeting siRNA RBD3133

Suzhou Ribo Life Science and its Swedish subsidiary Ribocure Pharmaceuticals have submitted a Phase 1 clinical trial application in Europe for RBD3133. The investigational siRNA therapeutic aims to treat obesity and metabolic dysfunction by silencing the INHBE gene, marking the company’s first entry into the weight-loss drug market.

The proposed trial will be a randomized, placebo-controlled study assessing the safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics of RBD3133 when administered subcutaneously. By targeting the INHBE gene, which encodes the protein activin E, researchers intend to replicate the metabolic benefits observed in individuals with natural loss-of-function variants. These genetic signatures are linked to healthier fat distribution and a reduced risk of coronary heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

Dr. Anders Gabrielsen, Chief Medical Officer at Ribo, described the submission as a pivotal move for the company’s cardiometabolic pipeline. The drug represents a strategic shift toward addressing large patient populations suffering from metabolic disorders. With over one billion people affected by obesity globally, the company aims to move beyond current treatment standards by addressing the underlying biological drivers of weight-related health complications. The upcoming human data will serve as the foundation for the candidate's future clinical development.
