Casino Payout Disputes: Why Recovering Winnings Can Take Two Years
Players fighting to recover withheld casino winnings face a volatile resolution timeline, with wait times ranging from 45 minutes to 20 months. New data from Casinomeister’s arbitration service reveals that while the number of disputes has surged 174% since 2016, the complexity and value of individual cases are rising even faster.

Over the past decade, the landscape of online gambling disputes has shifted significantly. Casinomeister, an independent advocacy group, reports that it has recovered over €8 million for players since 2016. However, the nature of these conflicts is evolving: the average recovery per case has climbed from approximately €880 in 2016 to €2,150 in 2025. This increase suggests that players are not only filing more grievances but are also grappling with higher-stakes financial disputes.
The timeline for resolution remains almost entirely at the discretion of the operator. While established casinos with reputable management can verify and process a legitimate win in less than an hour, others utilize restrictive withdrawal terms or drip-feed payments in the hope that players will gamble away their balances. In extreme instances, these tactics drag out the recovery process for nearly two years.
Emerging threats are further complicating the arbitration process. The rise of AI-generated complaints has created a bottleneck, with fake or inflated claims increasing more than tenfold. These submissions force advocates to divert resources away from genuine cases involving failed KYC checks, bonus term breaches, or outright bad-faith actors. According to Casinomeister content editor Natasa Milojevic, the best defense remains proactive research, as the most effective resolution is often the one that never becomes necessary.
