Summus Reports $30,000 Median Savings Per Complex Care Journey
A new independent analysis from Arbital Health suggests that physician-led care orchestration can significantly curb medical expenses. By evaluating 109 patient cases, researchers found that Summus’ multi-specialty platform generated a median savings of $30,474 per member by optimizing treatment paths during complex healthcare journeys.

The study utilized industry-standard MarketScan claims data to measure the economic impact of Summus' model. Across the 109 cases reviewed, the analysis identified an aggregate savings of $3.32 million. These findings remained consistent across various measurement windows—ranging from 30 to 90 days—and held steady regardless of whether the costs were allowed or paid.
Summus focuses on patients navigating fragmented care, where multiple diagnoses often lead to redundant testing and delayed outcomes. By providing longitudinal support and connecting patients with specialists within 12 to 24 hours, the platform seeks to streamline decision-making. Julian Flannery, CEO of Summus, noted that the data validates the economic utility of their approach for employers and health plans struggling with rising specialty care costs.
While the analysis provides a benchmark for cost reduction, it does not account for program fees or establish definitive causality for net ROI. The results build upon a 2022 actuarial review by Milliman, which previously affirmed the reasonableness of the company's methodology. Currently, the platform supports over 120 specialties and covers critical areas including oncology, cardiology, and complex orthopedics.
