Alphabet Executives Named in Securities Class Action Over AI Delays

Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai and CFO Anat Ashkenazi face individual liability claims in a pending securities lawsuit. The litigation targets misleading investor communications regarding the Gemini 3.5 Pro model, which was scheduled for a June 2026 launch despite internal reports showing significant development failures and training setbacks.

The class action, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, covers investors who purchased Alphabet stock between May 19 and July 16, 2026. Plaintiffs allege that executives knowingly promoted a June launch date while failing to disclose that the AI model faced critical performance issues. The situation culminated on July 16, when shares dropped 4.4% following reports that the product was behind schedule.

Legal filings under Section 20(a) assert that both Pichai and Ashkenazi held authority over public disclosures and maintained access to internal performance data that contradicted their public outlook. Investors seeking to serve as lead plaintiff in the case must file their applications by December 1, 2026. Participation in the action does not require immediate court appearances, as the case is handled on a contingency basis by Levi & Korsinsky LLP.
