China Automotive Systems Secures ASIL-D Safety Rating for AP04 Platform
With mass production for European markets slated for the fourth quarter of 2026, China Automotive Systems has achieved ISO 26262 ASIL-D certification for its AP04 electronic power steering platform. The milestone validates the technology's readiness for high-stakes L3 and L4 autonomous driving applications on a global scale.

The AP04 platform, developed by the company’s subsidiary Hubei Henglong, utilizes an independent dual-link redundant design to maintain steering control during single-channel failures. Testing conducted by UL confirmed that the system meets rigorous safety benchmarks, including a random hardware failure rate below 10 FIT and specific fault metrics exceeding 99% for single-point and 90% for latent faults.
This certification aligns with international standards, including dual ANAB and IAF accreditation, which eases entry into North American and European automotive markets. CEO Qizhou Wu noted that the achievement complements the company's existing ASPICE CL2 process capabilities and ISO/SAE 21434 cybersecurity alignment. By leveraging R&D centers in Wuhan and Sweden, the firm aims to solidify its position as a supplier to global OEMs that demand the most stringent functional safety protocols for their autonomous vehicle programs.
