The noon event at Daley Plaza serves as the formal kickoff for a weekend of cultural exchange. Following the ceremony, the Cook County Treasurer’s Office at 118 N. Clark St. will host a reception featuring a performance by tenor Eros Lombardo. During the gathering, Treasurer Pappas will present Certificates of Excellence to several Italian civic and religious leaders, including Mayor Mino Pignata of Oliveto Citra and Museum Director Marcello Naimoli.

This year’s celebration emphasizes the deep-rooted influence of the local Italian community, which numbers over 600,000 in the Chicago area. Beyond the official delegation, the festivities will include a performance by more than 30 members of the Campagna Youth Orchestra. These events precede the citywide Columbus Day parade on Monday, October 12, honoring the historic contributions of Italian Americans to the region's development.
