PDW Integrates Booz Allen Autonomy Software into AM Drone Fleet
Performance Drone Works is embedding Booz Allen’s mission autonomy software, powered by Shield AI’s Hivemind, into its AM multi-rotor drone series. The move aims to lower operator cognitive load during flight by automating mission workflows while maintaining human decision-making authority over tactical outcomes and strike execution.

The integration allows PDW’s AM system to handle perception and mission execution tasks autonomously, bridging the gap between reusable reconnaissance platforms and expendable strike assets. Beyond autonomy, PDW is implementing Booz Allen’s secure, over-the-air fleet management tool. This product enables operators to push configuration updates and software patches across distributed drone fleets, even in environments with intermittent or limited connectivity. By shifting from manual, aircraft-by-aircraft updates to a centralized managed workflow, the companies claim they can reduce deployment cycles from months to hours.
PDW CEO James Slider stated that the partnership addresses the need for rapid adaptation on the battlefield, ensuring fielded systems do not become obsolete as threats evolve. The hardware and software combination began controlled testing on September 30, with general availability scheduled for the first quarter of 2027. Future development plans include extending these autonomous capabilities to the C100 platform later that year. Production for these systems is anchored at Drone Factory 01, the company’s 90,000-square-foot facility in Huntsville, Alabama, which maintains an annual capacity of 100,000 units.
