Cirkla, Belmark, and Ossid Launch First Resealable Fiber Tray Packaging

A coalition of three packaging heavyweights is introducing a resealable fiber tray solution, marking a significant departure from the industry’s long-standing reliance on rigid plastic for peel-and-reseal applications. The technology debuts this October at trade shows in Orlando and Chicago, targeting fresh protein, produce, and ready-meal markets.

For years, the ability to reseal food packaging has been restricted to rigid plastic, as engineers struggled to bond resealable films to fiber substrates without destroying the tray's protective liner. Cirkla, Belmark, and Ossid have effectively bypassed this limitation, creating a commercially scalable system that integrates high-performance fiber trays with specialized lidding film and automated sealing machinery.

Cirkla provides the foundation with its fiber trays, which are designed to reduce plastic waste by up to 90% while maintaining durability and shelf-life parity with plastic alternatives. The process utilizes Belmark's advanced lidding film technology, while Ossid’s ReeMaster NextGen Automatic Tray Sealer ensures precise, high-speed application. According to Glenn Divers, Vice President of Sales at Cirkla, the collaboration removes the primary barriers to adoption, allowing brands to transition to sustainable materials without requiring capital-intensive line modifications. The system is compatible with existing U.S. production standards, including Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) and Vacuum Skin Packaging (VSP).
