Sharp Biomedical Secures Funding to Simplify Outpatient Spine Care
Fargo-based startup Sharp Biomedical has closed a pre-seed funding round led by gener8tor 1889, aiming to shift spine care from high-cost hospital settings to local outpatient clinics. The infusion of capital will support the development of a manual toolset and implant system designed to treat early-to-mid-stage chronic pain patients.

The company seeks to bypass the industry's current reliance on expensive robotics and complex infrastructure by introducing streamlined, manual procedures. Founder and CEO Dan Newman noted that while the medical sector often prioritizes late-stage spinal interventions, a significant gap remains in the earlier stages of the care continuum. By providing clinics with accessible technology, the firm intends to improve patient outcomes without requiring intensive capital expenditures.
Ben Stanley, Principal at gener8tor 1889, emphasized that the investment reflects confidence in the team's ability to democratize spine care. Dr. Danny Neuman, an interventional pain specialist at Ascentist Healthcare and advisor to the company, highlighted that the design process relies on direct physician input to ensure the tools address practical clinical needs. With the funding now secured, Sharp Biomedical is transitioning into a phase of rigorous testing and regulatory preparation to bring its flagship device to market.
