North Scott Schools Secure $10,000 Grant for Innovation Center

A $10,000 Workforce Readiness grant from the American Water Charitable Foundation is set to bolster STEM programming at the North Scott Community School District. The funding will specifically enhance robotics and engineering equipment at the Eldridge-based Regional Innovation Center, supporting students from elementary school through high school graduation.

The capital injection will facilitate significant hardware upgrades, including new 3D-printing resources and the acquisition of a CNC machine. These tools are central to the center’s mission of providing hands-on training in computer-aided design and mechanical manufacturing. Beyond equipment, the grant covers registration fees for LEGO League programs at three elementary schools and tournament expenses for the district’s 7–12 grade robotics teams.

Principal Andrew Lehn noted that consistent financial backing over the past two years has enabled the school to maintain a competitive edge in regional robotics circuits. For students like Josh Le, the investment translates into a more sophisticated engineering environment, allowing for in-house manufacturing that was previously inaccessible. Coaches and staff view these resources as essential for preparing students for future careers in skilled technical fields, emphasizing that the program also fosters mentorship by encouraging older students to share their expertise with younger peers in the district.
