For 87% of American shoppers, the dopamine rush of securing a steep discount outweighs the prestige of owning a luxury item. Economic pressure remains a persistent backdrop for the upcoming holidays, with 58% of consumers expressing anxiety about overspending. This concern is particularly acute among parents, where 69% report budget worries, a figure that climbs to 77% for Gen Z parents. Despite this, the appetite for holiday generosity has not waned: 80% of respondents intend to match or exceed their previous year's spending levels.

To balance these competing interests, shoppers are turning to a slower, more deliberate strategy. Most consumers, roughly 86%, plan to initiate their holiday shopping before December 1, eschewing last-minute rushes for a methodical search for value. In-person retail is seeing a resurgence as part of this trend, with 70% of shoppers citing the ability to physically interact with products as a primary motivator. Beyond the tactile experience, the appeal of discovering unexpected items and taking home purchases immediately—avoiding delivery delays—continues to drive foot traffic to brick-and-mortar stores.
