Orange Launches Reconnexion Flash to Combat Fiber Outages in France
When a fiber line drops, the connection usually dies with it, leaving households offline until repairs finish. Orange is changing this in France by deploying SoftAtHome’s Always'ON technology, which allows the Livebox to automatically reroute home internet traffic through a customer’s smartphone hotspot without requiring extra hardware or complex software.

The new service, branded as Reconnexion Flash, targets users equipped with the Livebox 7 or Livebox S. Rather than relying on secondary 4G dongles or mobile routers, the system bridges the gap between fixed-line fiber and mobile data. When an outage occurs, the Livebox generates a QR code on its display, guiding the user through a brief setup to link their smartphone hotspot. Once paired, all devices in the home—from smart TVs to laptops—continue to function over the mobile connection.
This failover process is handled entirely by the gateway software, which manages the transition back to fiber once the primary line is restored. While the mobile backup maintains streaming and general web access, specific fixed-line services like landline telephony and multicast television remain tethered to the fiber infrastructure until full service returns. According to Laurence Thouveny, Orange’s Customer Experience EVP, the initiative aims to provide an autonomous solution to network interruptions, while SoftAtHome CEO Arnaud Bellivier de Prin noted that the technology allows operators to maintain service continuity during sensitive moments of connectivity failure.
