TRI Debuts TRIAL.OS to Automate Intelligent Clinical Research

Cambridge-based TRI has launched TRIAL.OS, an operating system designed to integrate AI-driven insights directly into clinical trial management. The platform aims to move research teams away from manual oversight by providing specific, actionable guidance on trial risks while allowing companies to license individual applications rather than entire software suites.

The system operates on six functional pillars: understanding, predicting, explaining, recommending, automating, and learning. By shifting from traditional operational management to an intelligent model, the software intends to augment expert judgment rather than replace it. CEO Duncan Hall noted that the development process required a fundamental rethink of how the company commercializes its tools, focusing on opportunities made possible by AI that were previously inaccessible to researchers.

Accessibility remains a core component of the rollout. Historically, Risk-Based Quality Management (RBQM) platforms were largely restricted to organizations with significant budgets for permanent infrastructure. TRIAL.OS permits smaller firms to access targeted applications that function either as standalone tools or as extensions of existing technology stacks. To ensure regulatory compliance, the system is governed by a framework aligned with the EU AI Act, ICH E6(R3), and 21 CFR Part 11. Every AI-generated output is treated as a draft for human review, maintaining clear accountability for clinical teams.
